At The Name of Jesus

Every Knee Shall Bow!

Today the Catholic Church celebrates the Holy Name of Jesus. We must recall that there is no other name by which we are Saved. On this day, we recall the words of St. Paul in his letter to the Philippians when he said, "God greatly exalted Jesus and bestowed on Him the Name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, of those in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father."

Quite often the Catholic Church is characterized as not being Christ centered. Of course, nothing is further from the truth. The reason the Church may be seen in this way is that Catholics do not often proclaim Jesus as Lord. In fact, it may be due to a reticence that developed in the counter-Reformation period in which Catholics sought to be seen as distinct from the Protestants, who clearly make profession of the Name a hallmark. However, if we are to be true to who we are as followers of Christ, than today is a good day to proclaim to others that salvation comes through Jesus. Indeed, there is no other Name!

The Subtle Method
The Real War

As always, the proclamation of the Gospel is free of charge and it is highly encouraged that everyone share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Always remember, however, that it is a sin to bear false witness and to steal. When proclaiming the Gospel, always give credit where credit is due.
